Application for Building Community: A Two-Year Partnership with Facing History & Ourselves

We are excited to read your application for this funded two-year partnership opportunity! This application should be completed by a lead administrator, School Principal or an Assistant Principal. 

We may ask for a 20–30 minute follow-up conversation as part of the application process.
Only New York City Public Schools serving middle or high school students are eligible.

This partnership requires the following elements:

Regular consultation between a School “Implementation Team” and Facing History to support bringing the approaches and resources from our work together to your school community. The Implementation Team should include:
  • Lead Administrator (Principal or AP), Humanities or equivalent Department Chair, Key Teacher(s), School Climate and Culture Staff—e.g., RFA liaison, guidance counselor, advisory teacher
Hosting one full faculty workshop at your school each year of the partnership or sending representative staff to a workshop at a central NYC location on topics such as:
  • Building community
  • Fostering civil discourse
  • Student-centered classrooms
  • Media literacy
Implementing one Facing History unit in social studies, civics, humanities or ELA in at least one grade level with planning and resource support from Facing History.
  • While full implementation is expected in 2026-27, schools are encouraged to integrate these resources sooner if possible.
Allowing educators implementing the above Facing History unit to attend one full-day, off-site professional learning in Spring 2026.
